Prismatic Earth Minerals has a new home!

Myself and PEM recently moved to Nashville, TN and we couldn't be more excited! I am hoping that this new location will present many opportunities for advancement and on-site vending. I already have a few places in mind, and will let everyone know when and where to mark it on the calendar.

Also, every Sunday I am adding products to my eBay site- Auction Style. I've been wanting to do this format, and going through eBay seems to be the easiest, most familiar route.

Check it out:

I will be posting new products soon. In the meantime, there are new sale items on the home page.

Cheers,
Jess @ PEM

Hello everyone!

In exactly one month, Prismatic Earth Minerals will be celebrating it's 1 year anniversary! So far it has been filled with lots of learning, excitement, and new experiences.

Lately, I have added a Sale Items section on the home page. It will be updated weekly with newly discounted products. Some of the inventory that I've been getting lately is BEAUTIFUL! Quite diverse specimens, but I think next I want to try and acquire some fluorescent pieces. What are you guys' favorite types of rocks/minerals? Anything you'd like to see? I'm always interested in rock talk :)

Shoot me an e-mail:
prismatic.earth.minerals@gmail.com

The next big show I plan on attending will be Denver in September. Can't wait! I bet the city is lovely that time of the year. Hoping to be reunited with some of the cool folks that I met in Tucson back in February.

As usual, e-mail me with any questions, comments, or feedback!

Cheers,
Jess @ Prismatic Earth Minerals

tucson gem and mineral show(s), 2014

Hello again!

This was my first year going to Tucson, and it was AMAZING! I don't know what I was expecting, but everything was bigger and better than anticipated. I was able to pick up a bit of inventory and meet some very nice, interesting and like-minded folks. (Not to mention the southwest was experiencing some record high temperatures [90+ degrees], and there was snow on the ground when I left home).

Since it was my first time, I HAD to go to the big show at the convention center. As far as purchasing there, most of the prices were shockingly high, but I snatched up some choice specimens which will be posted as soon as I receive my package via UPS... no one should ever, ever! try to get through TSA with minerals (what a nightmare!).

Next year, I will most certainly be arriving 1-2 weeks ahead of time in order to catch all the hotel and wholesale shows. Luckily, some people were still around, and I received plenty of great advice about my timeline and agenda for next year. I've also got the September show in Denver on my mind, hopefully that will be able to fit into my schedule.

Here are some pictures from the trip!
Notice on some of the photos the price tags are visible, wow!

Hello Everyone!

It has been a minute since I last updated with new products, but the reason why is worth it! Since my site host changed practically everything about how my site looks and functions, every product had to be individually re-posted under the new format. I must say that initially I was not happy about these changes, but now that I am done it has definitely made my life MUCH easier!

That being said, please check out the new style and tell me what you think. I feel like it is much more organized without the information overload that it may have previously possessed. If it's not clear already, I am a huge proponent of minimalism... this brings to mind that KISS (keep it simple stupid) anagram that teachers love so much...
...tl;dr- I am finally satisfied with the look and feel of the site.

Soon I will start having a "Featured Mineral" section. This will feature information about the mineral in question, along with discounted said minerals. I look forward to honoring some of my favorites, and brushing up on my knowledge of some less common specimens.

I am extremely excited to take my first trip to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in a little over a month. Hopefully I can collect some excellent new material and meet awesome other people with similar interests.

As always, feedback is much appreciated!

Cheers,
Jess

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

In the past week, my web host has decided to completely change the way things look and run in my store! Just when I thought I had the hang of things...

While this comes as a surprise, they have made it easier for me to arrange things and organize. Anyhow, I will be working on integrating and updating my products to keep up with the times. This will also allow me to go ahead and add those dimensions that everyone desperately wants and needs!

If things start looking weird and inconsistent, this will be why.

Cheers!

A couple of weekends ago, I visited the annual Huntsville Gem and Mineral Show. It was really great to see so much interest in my hometown.

I do regret that I wasn't able to set up my own vendor table, but, as usual, time and financial constraints came first. I know I will be able to eventually, but until then there are plenty of learning experiences to be had!

Upcoming plans include saving $ for my trip to the Tucson show, researching interesting areas to dig within a few hundred miles, acquiring business  cards, and finding local places to set up shop.

I hope everyone is enjoying this lovely fall weather!
Cheers,
Jess

a little more than a month in...

The first full month of PEM being in business has been amazing! I feel like I'm finally getting into a routine that I can fit into my weekly schedule. There have already been many great learning opportunities already involving shipping techniques, photography, purchasing, etc.

This will be the first Tuesday that I will not be adding new products, which I am not happy about! Unfortunately, there are always going to be bills to pay and mouths to feed. Priorities!

Some of the recent specimens that I have gotten are so beautiful that I almost don't want to get rid of them! But, only almost :)

The site hit 6,000 views yesterday, and words cannot express my gratitude and pride. It seems unbelievable.

I have a few friends that have been affected by the government shutdown... shout out to you guys, I hope this nonsense can be resolved soon!

Check back next week, and CHEERS!

Photography, inventory, and advertising... oh my!

Well, everything is off to a great start! I've had overwhelming feedback and support from those who have visited the site. There have now been over 4,000 pageviews and I can't believe it!

Now comes the learning curve.

I have never been a particularly great photographer, and, as many of you may know- it's not easy to photograph minerals! I purchased a new camera, which is working great, but my "studio" needs some work. Now comes the trial and error.

At the moment, the majority of my inventory is being purchased online. I have a full-time job, and am not able to travel to shows as much as I would like. Making connections seems to be key in this business, so hopefully in the next year or so I will be able to hit a few.

My main focus now will be advertising. I've gotten a lot of great advice from Justin at The-Vug (many thanks!), and will be pursuing that route once the income is available. I should also invest in some business cards... fancy!

I would also like to give a shoutout to all of the rockhounds over at Reddit. You've been a phenomenal group full of advice and passion. You guys rock!

Cheers,
Jess

The site officially launched on August 23, 2013 (somewhat planned, but coincidentally on my birthday!). I cannot thank everyone enough for the support and feedback that I have received thus far.

I could not be happier with these results!

I have a lot of ideas for the site that I'm tossing around. I think I will have a monthly featured mineral, and each specimen's price will be reduced by a percentage. Also, by sharing on Facebook, I will provide free shipping costs? 1 share, 1 free ship. Sound good?

Currently, my focus is on purchasing inventory and finding advertising venues. If anyone you know is interested in this type of thing, by all means, let them know about PEM!

I am also working towards compiling all the dimensions and weights for every specimen. This will take some time, so please be patient with me. Until then, please feel free to e-mail me and ask about any product you may be interested in.

Again, THANK YOU!

Cheers,
Jess
